The Mauritius non communicable disease studies 1987-2009


Presenter: Dr Dianna Magliano

 

Dianna completed a PhD at the Macfarlane Burnet Centre on the molecular biology of Rubella Virus followed by a post-doctoral position in the Chromosome Research Group at the Murdoch Institute. In 2000, she started work as a Research Fellow at the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Monash University. In
this position, she lectures in epidemiology and public health. In 2002, Dr Magliano was awarded a National Heart Foundation of Australia Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship to conduct research into risk
prediction of cardiovascular disease. In 2005, she joined the International Diabetes Institute as a senior epidemiologist and conducts analyses for the AusDiab follow-up study while maintaining her teaching
post at Monash University. In this post she has also is a consultant epidemiologist for the Island of Mauritius and has established several studies of diabetes and mortality in Mauritius. In 2007, she became a voting member of the Human Ethics Committee for the International Diabetes Institute. Outside her professional duties, she undertakes some consultancies for pharmaceutical companies and conducts short courses on epidemiology and biostatistics for industry.
